The genetic analyzer Thermo Scientific SeqStudio

The Applied Biosystems SeqStudio genetic analyzer (manufactured by Thermo Fisher Scientific) is a desktop capillary electrophoresis system designed for Sanger DNA sequencing and fragment analysis. The device is aimed at laboratories performing identity identification (forensic examination, establishment of paternity), mutation analysis, microsatellite instability, SNP genotyping and research in the field of functional genomics. The key innovation of the system is an all-in-one replaceable cartridge that integrates a four-capillary assembly, a universal polymer POP-1, a polymer delivery system, and an anode buffer. When installing the cartridge, the device automatically performs optical alignment and spectral calibration, which eliminates the need for manual adjustment. The cartridge remains stable on the device for up to six months and is designed for 250 injections (1,000 samples). The RFID technology on the cartridge automatically tracks the remaining resource. The capillary electrophoresis method implemented in the device makes it possible to separate fluorescently labeled DNA fragments along their length in a thin capillary filled with polymer under the action of an electric field. The device supports operation with standard 96-well plates or eight-channel strips of tubes. The analysis time for STR profiles is about 39 minutes. A cooling system is provided for samples requiring long-term storage. It is controlled via an integrated touchscreen with an intuitive interface. The operator can run runs, view the results in real time, and track the status of supplies directly from the instrument display. SeqStudio Data Collection Software version 1.2 includes a SAE (Security, Audit, E-Signature) security module that provides data protection, auditing, and electronic signatures. The analyzer is compatible with secondary analysis programs: GeneMapper ID-X for forensic examination, SeqScape for sequence variant analysis, Variant Reporter and Sequence Analysis Software. The device occupies the minimum area on a laboratory table among all systems of Applied Biosystems genetic analyzers and weighs about 54 kg.
