The Thermo Scientific Dionex Inuvion ion chromatography system is designed for the separation and quantification of charged particles—anions and cations—in liquid samples. This equipment is widely used in laboratories monitoring the quality of drinking water, wastewater, food products, and beverages, as well as in the oil, gas, and pharmaceutical industries. The device is constructed of inert, non-metallic PEEK, which is resistant to corrosive eluents and prevents sample contamination with metal ions. The pump section is a dual-piston unit with sequential pistons controlled by a microprocessor. The device generates operating pressures up to 35 megapascals (5000 psi) and provides eluent flow rate control from 0 to 5 milliliters per minute. Flow rate setting accuracy is less than 0.1 percent, and pressure pulsation is less than one percent. The system is available in three configurations, each with a different level of automation. The entry-level Inuvion Core version uses chemical suppression (suppression of background conductivity) and manual eluent preparation. The Inuvion version features electrolytic suppression and integrated vacuum degassing. The higher-end Inuvion version, with its RFIC (Reagent-Free IC) feature, includes automatic eluent generation—the system automatically produces potassium hydroxide or methanesulfonic acid from water using an electric current, eliminating the need for manual solution preparation and enabling gradient elution. All three versions are built on a single hardware platform and can be upgraded as laboratory needs evolve, from a basic configuration to a fully functional RFIC. The conductivity detector features a thermostatted cell volume of less than one microliter and an operating range of up to 18,000 microsiemens per centimeter. Automatic range switching allows for the simultaneous detection of both major and minor components in a single injection. The data acquisition frequency is user-configurable from 1 to 100 Hz, and the filter time constant is adjustable from 0 to 10 seconds. Sample delivery is accomplished via a six-port Rheodyne PEEK injection valve with electronic control. The system can be optionally equipped with AS-DV, AS-AP, or AS-HV series autosamplers, as well as an auxiliary valve for automated sample preparation (filtration, concentration, and dilution). The optional column thermostat maintains a temperature range of 10 to 60 degrees Celsius with an accuracy of ±0.5 degrees, minimizing the impact of laboratory temperature fluctuations on analytical results. The device is controlled via Chromeleon CDS software, which supports automated start-up and shutdown procedures, built-in video instructions, electronic logging, and full audit trails in accordance with 21 CFR Part 11. The basic configuration measures 661 x 292 x 432 mm and weighs 15.3 kilograms. The device is designed for 24/7 operation at ambient temperatures ranging from 4 to 40 degrees Celsius and humidity levels ranging from 20 to 80 percent. Power consumption is 100–240 volts, 50–60 Hz.
