The Agilent 5977 mass-selective detector is a single-quadrupole system for gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MSD) available in several configurations: the 5977A, 5977B, and 5977C. The instrument is designed for laboratories performing quantitative and qualitative analysis in sectors such as environmental monitoring, the food industry, petrochemistry, pharmaceuticals, forensics, and materials testing. A key feature of the system is the wide range of ion sources available to suit various analytical applications. The standard stainless-steel EI (electron ionization) version ensures stable performance for applications with moderate sensitivity requirements. The Inert Plus model features an extraction lens that enhances sensitivity when analyzing active compounds. The EI/CI version supports both electron ionization and chemical ionization, enabling the determination of compound molecular weights. The flagship model, equipped with the High Efficiency Source (HES), delivers unprecedented sensitivity, achieving an instrument detection limit of 1.5 femtograms.
