The Agilent 7010 mass spectrometry system is a triple quadrupole (GC-MS/MS) system for gas chromatography, designed for the quantitative determination of target components at ultra-low concentration levels. The instrument is available in two models — the 7010B and 7010C — and is aimed at laboratories working in the fields of environmental monitoring, food safety, pharmaceuticals, forensic science and petrochemicals. A key feature of the system is the innovative design of its highly efficient ion source. The 7010B model incorporates a high-efficiency ionisation source (HES), which increases the number of ions directed into the mass analyser, resulting in a significant increase in sensitivity compared with traditional sources. The 7010C version represents a further development, equipped with a new Hydrolnert source, which is optimised for use with hydrogen as the carrier gas. This solution enables laboratories to reduce their reliance on helium whilst maintaining high analytical throughput. The first and third quadrupole mass analysers, as well as the second quadrupole (octupole), which functions as a collision cell, are manufactured using monolithic technology with hyperbolic-shaped rods. The gold-plated structure is heated to 200 degrees Celsius, which prevents the build-up of contaminants during the analysis of high-boiling compounds. The scanning range is up to 1,050 atomic mass units, and the scanning speed reaches 20,000 atomic mass units per second. The collision cell is equipped with patented Effective Focusing (EFF) and operates in both single-quadrupole and triple-quadrupole modes. For the most complex multi-purpose methods, a dynamic multiple reaction monitoring (dMRM) mode is provided, allowing thousands of transitions to be tracked in a single analysis. JetClean technology provides automatic self-cleaning of the ion source, increasing uptime and reducing maintenance costs. The system is compatible with Agilent 7890, 8860, 8890 and Intuvo 9000 series gas chromatographs. It is controlled via the MassHunter software, which provides tools for method development, data acquisition, processing and quantitative analysis. The three-axis detector with a photomultiplier tube ensures suppression of noise from neutral particles and a high signal-to-noise ratio.
