The device is equipped with a HES ion source, which provides low-energy electron ionization with electron energy control in the range from 5 to 200 electron volts. This design allows you to vary the degree of fragmentation of molecules: at standard 70 electron volts, detailed library spectra are obtained, and when the energy is reduced to 10-20 electron volts, the molecular ion is preserved, which simplifies the identification of unknown substances. The source is heated to 350 degrees Celsius, and access to it for cleaning is carried out through the function of rapid depressurization with nitrogen purge without a long wait for vacuum restoration. The mass analyzer consists of three stages. The first stage is a monolithic hyperbolic quartz quadrupole with a gold coating, heated to 200 degrees Celsius to prevent contamination. It performs the selection of precursor ions with an adjustable insulation window width from 0.4 to 4.0 atomic mass units. The mass range of the quadrupole is from 10 to 1050 atomic mass units. The second stage is a linear hexapole impact cell powered by a mixture of helium and nitrogen in a four-to-one ratio. The energy of the collisions is regulated to 60 electron volts, which ensures efficient fragmentation of selected ions to obtain MS/MS spectra. The third stage is a time—of-flight analyzer with a flight tube length of 3 meters. The pipe is made of invar, an alloy with a low coefficient of thermal expansion, and is placed in a vacuum-insulated shell, which ensures the stability of mass calibration when the ambient temperature changes. The two-stage ion mirror focuses the ions, increasing the resolution. The range of registered masses ranges from 20 to 3000 atomic mass units. The data collection rate reaches 50 spectra per second, which makes it possible to correctly describe chromatographic peaks with a width of less than one second. The sampling rate of the detector is 160 gigabits per second, and the electronic dynamic range exceeds nine orders of magnitude. The MassHunter software supports a full cycle of work, from creating methods and collecting data to qualitative and quantitative analysis. The SureMass algorithm performs deconvolution of overlapping peaks, and the library of personal compounds for metabolomics contains more than 900 high-resolution spectra. The software is available in three installation modes, including a version with user separation and support for electronic signatures in accordance with the requirements of 21 CFR Part 11. The vacuum system includes three turbomolecular pumps and one pre-vacuum pump. The system is compatible with Agilent 7890 and 8890 series gas chromatographs. The device supports column backwash and two-dimensional gas chromatography technologies, which increases the separation efficiency of complex mixtures.
