The Agilent J&W DB-624 capillary column belongs to the class of mid-polar phases specially designed for the analysis of volatile organic pollutants and residual organic solvents by gas chromatography and gas chromato-mass spectrometry. The stationary phase is a polymer composed of 6 percent cyanopropylphenyl and 94 percent dimethylpolysiloxane. Initially, the column was created for EPA methods for the control of volatile organic compounds, and then became a standard tool for pharmaceutical testing according to the US Pharmacopoeia. The column is available in two main versions. The basic version is a strong crosslinked and bonded phase, resistant to solvent washing. The improved version of Ultra Inert undergoes additional processing, which significantly increases the inertia of the surface. This is especially important for the analysis of active compounds such as phenols, mercaptans, and acid impurities, which can produce asymmetric peaks in standard phases or be lost due to adsorption. The column is available in a wide range of geometric sizes: internal diameters from 0.18 to 0.53 millimeters, lengths from 15 to 105 meters and film thicknesses from 1.00 to 3.00 micrometers. The operating temperature range ranges from minus 20 to 260 degrees Celsius. The column is classified by the USP as a G43 phase. The Ultra Inert version extends the column's scope of application beyond traditional volatile organic compounds. It is successfully used for the analysis of oxygen-containing compounds in wastewater, phenols and alkylated phenols, furans and sulfur compounds in hydrocarbons. The column is compatible with various GC techniques, including one-dimensional and multidimensional chromatography, two-dimensional gas chromatography and GC-MS. Each column is supplied with a performance certificate confirming the tests for flushing parameters, sensitivity and efficiency.
