The Thermo Scientific Hypersil GOLD C18 chromatographic column is a reverse-phase sorbent based on ultrapure silica gel with grafted octadecyl groups and complete endcapping. The device is designed to separate acidic, basic and neutral compounds with minimal peak tailing. The column is in demand in pharmaceutical quality control, clinical research, food analysis, environmental monitoring and in high performance liquid chromatography systems with mass spectrometric detection. The sorbent is made of ultrapure spherical silica gel with a pore size of 175 angstroms and a specific surface area of 220 square meters per gram. This wide porosity ensures high separation efficiency and excellent peak shape, even for complex analytical mixtures. The proprietary stationary phase grafting technology combined with full endcapping ensures a reduction in unwanted interactions between analytes and active sites on the silica surface. Hypersil GOLD's proprietary derivatization and endcapping technology ensures exceptional column stability over a wide pH range from 1 to 11. The device demonstrates excellent stability at both low and high pH values. This property allows the use of aggressive mobile phases for column cleaning and analyte separation without the risk of hydrolysis of the silica matrix. The column material is characterized by high batch reproducibility, which is critically important for validated quality control methods. Particles with diameters of 1.9, 3, 5 and 12 micrometers are available. The particle size of 1.9 micrometers is optimized for ultra-high performance liquid chromatography systems and can withstand pressures up to 1250 bar. Classic particles of 3 and 5 micrometers are suitable for standard HPLC equipment, while large particles of 12 micrometers are designed for semi-surgical separations. The speaker is fully compatible with tandem mass spectrometry systems, providing high detection sensitivity due to low background noise. The design includes a stainless steel case with an internal diameter of 1 to 50 millimeters and a length of 10 to 250 millimeters. Applications cover the analysis of a wide range of compounds, including basic and acidic medicinal substances and their metabolites, peptides, natural products, environmental pollutants, pesticides, and food additives.
