Such a high surface area combined with a dense coating of the stationary phase ensures a high carbon loading of 16 percent. Double endcapping additionally deactivates free silanol groups, which minimizes secondary interactions and guarantees excellent peak shape even for basic and chelating compounds. The high carbon content provides increased hydrophobicity and improved retention of nonpolar analytes compared to standard C18 phases. Due to the high grafting density and effective endcapping, exceptional reproducibility is achieved from column to column, which is critical for validated quality control methods. Each column is individually tested to meet strict specifications for retention, efficiency, and peak symmetry. The column is stable in the pH range from 2 to 9 and can withstand temperatures up to 60 degrees Celsius. Particles with diameters of 1.7, 3 and 5 micrometers are available. The 1.7 micrometer particle version is optimized for ultra-high performance liquid chromatography systems and can withstand pressures up to 1250 bar. The classic 3 and 5 micrometer particles are suitable for standard high performance liquid chromatography equipment with a maximum pressure of 400 bar. The range of sizes includes internal diameters from 2.1 to 50 millimeters and lengths from 10 to 250 millimeters, as well as preparation versions with a diameter of up to 20 millimeters. Due to its high hydrophobicity, the column is particularly effective for separating hydrophobic compounds by reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromatography. Typical applications include pharmaceutical substance analysis, food quality control, pesticide screening, biological fluid analysis, and environmental monitoring. The column is classified by the USP as L1.
