The key difference of this column is the special chemical treatment mode of the inner surface of the quartz tube, which purposefully reduces the interaction of active basic analytes with silanol groups of silica. Due to this, the symmetrical shape of chromatographic peaks is achieved even when analyzing ppm levels of amines without the need for laborious and lengthy pre-activation (conditioning) of the column. The stationary phase has a nonpolar composition: 5% diphenyl and 95% dimethylpolysiloxane, which corresponds to the classical phase of 5% phenyl. However, unlike standard TG-5MS columns, the surface here is modified to work with basic analytes without losing its ability to separate neutral or slightly acidic compounds such as phenols and substances subject to the formation of hydrogen bonds. The operating temperature range for the isothermal mode is 300 degrees Celsius, for the programmable mode — 315 degrees. The level of flushing of the stationary phase remains low even at maximum operating temperature, which preserves a high signal-to-noise ratio and the integrity of the mass spectra when working with a mass-selective detector. The stationary phase is crosslinked and bonded, which allows flushing with organic solvents to remove non-volatile residues and extend the life of the column. The column is available in a wide range of geometric sizes. The inner diameters range from 0.25 to 0.53 millimeters, the lengths are 15 or 30 meters, and the film thickness is available in 0.25, 0.5, 1.0, and 3.0 micrometers. Each column comes with a performance certificate confirming its suitability for the analysis of active core compounds.
